In the Townscape area of Bangor West, there is a need to preserve and enhance the local character and the unique features that make the area what it is. The mature trees, the unique setting, the historic features and the variety of house types and designs all contribute to the appearance of the area.
Just as important are the boundaries, the variety in plot size, the coherent terraces and the views in and out of the area. It is important that new developments, large or small, or indeed any additions to existing properties, are carefully considered and respect the context that exists. This is just as important for new garden walls, new street signs or new paving as it is for large developments
The aim of the conservation group is to encourage the careful design of new developments so as to enhance the character of area and to oppose unsympathetic schemes which have a negative impact.
In recent years, the group has also evolved to incorporate other concerns of our residents. Thus, we are also focussing on environmental aspects of this area - concerning ourselves with planting schemes, utilities and road safety. Our members wish to live in an area of both beauty and functionality and the BWCG hopes to liaise with the Council and other agencies to achieve this.
